About the Enfield Police Department

The Town of Enfield has a population of slightly over 5,000 within a 42 square mile area in the Dartmouth/Lake Sunapee Region of New Hampshire. There are over 150 miles of roads and highways in our community including New Hampshire Routes 4 and 4A. Interstate 89, the major Boston and Montreal route, intersects the southeast quadrant of the Town.

The community is in a rural setting with many natural recreational areas nestled in the foothills of the White Mountains. Within our boundaries are two large lakes and numerous ponds. The largest, Lake Mascoma, covers an area of 1166 acres, is 4.25 miles in length with the maximum depth of 72 feet. The Enfield Wildlife Management Area, consisting of over several thousand acres is the largest such tract in the State of New Hampshire.

Cultural attractions include the Enfield Shaker Village and the Enfield Shaker Museum.

Police operations are quartered in the police station at 19 Main Street in Enfield. The department provides full police services employing the latest technology in forensic sciences, communications, and informational systems. Operational scheduling provides a mixture of assignments for the individual officer. Core assignments are to patrol functions with time allotted to assignments in drug enforcement, criminal investigations, communications, and computer crimes/fraud investigations.

The department supports several community youth programs including the Law Enforcement Cadets under the Boy Scouts of America, the DARE program, and a Police Intern program. This focus on youth has manifold advantages for our community and the department.

The Department has a vigorous training program using the resources of the New Hampshire Police Academy, the New England Institute at Babson College, and the FBI National Academy. John E. Reed Associates of Chicago, IL has provided considerable specialized training to members of the department.
